A new Jimmy Johns is coming to downtown Wilmington.

It will be the first Jimmy Johns location in the state's largest city. Currently, the only location of the sandwich shop in Newark on East Main Street.

The shop, which is expected to open in Wilmington by the end of the year, will be at 824 N. Market St., a spokeswoman for the company confirmed Monday. Details about the grand opening, including the date and time, will be announced later this year, she said.

The chain is located in 43 states, and it was started in 1983 by Jimmy John Liautaud. The first location was at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, according to the company. There are currently more than 1,900 franchise and corporate locations.
