An unidentified pedestrian was hit and critically injured in Wilmington shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, city police said.

The man was trying to cross from the south to the north side of the 1300 block of W. Fourth St., without using a marked crosswalk when he was struck, Cpl. Mark Ivey said.

The injured pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition, Ivey said. Details of his injuries were not disclosed.

The driver of the Buick sedan that hit him remained at the scene to cooperate with police, Ivey said. The driver, whose identity was not released, was not injured, he said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, Ivey said.

They ask anyone who witnessed the collision to call the Wilmington Police Confidential Tip Line at (302) 576-3990.
