D.C. woman hit by car in Dewey Beach

A serious vehicle accident on Coastal Highway at McKinley Street in Dewey Beach on Sunday, Sept. 17 resulted in two people being transported to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.  Rehoboth Beach Fire along with Sussex County EMS responded to the incident with Dewey Beach Police investigating.

A driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs struck a 25-year-old woman standing on a street corner in Dewey Beach Sunday morning, police said. 

The call came in to Dewey Beach Police around 10:20 a.m. They dispatched to the scene on Coastal Highway at McKinley Street where they found the pedestrian had been hit, police said. 

The woman, a Washington D.C. resident, was taken by ambulance to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes and then airlifted to Christiana Hospital, police said. She had a head injury and was in critical condition, police said.

No charges have been filed yet.
