Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the victims were suffering from propane poisoning. They are suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Three people were hospitalized in stable condition for carbon monoxide poisoning at a Rita's Italian Ice location under construction in Greenville on Saturday, officials said.

Around 8:45 a.m., Cranston Heights Fire Company responded to a call from the Powder Mill Square shopping plaza on the 3800 block of Kennett Pike for a carbon monoxide incident with multiple patients.

New Castle County Paramedics and Delaware State Police responded to the scene shortly afterward, Senior Cpl. David J. McKinney Jr. said.

When fire officials arrived, they discovered the building had high carbon monoxide levels. Three patients appeared to show symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, McKinney said.

A 32-year-old man found unconscious in the building was sent to Christiana Hospital after complaining of a headache when he was resuscitated.

A 48-year-old man was sent to the hospital after suffering from an "altered mental status," McKinney said.

Paramedics also sent the last victim, a 46-year-old man, to the hospital for evaluation after he complained of a headache, dizziness and an altered mental status.

All patients were stable at the time of transport, paramedics said.

A representative from the store location said all three men were performing construction at the time of the incident.

Delaware State Police are investigating, said Sgt. Richard Bratz, police spokesman.
