Investigators say the boy ran into oncoming traffic just before 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Linden St., where he was hit, according to a news release by the Wilmington Police Department.

According to police scanner radio, the child was trapped under the truck. Wilmington police, New Castle County paramedics and the Wilmington Fire Department were on the scene.

The 44-year-old woman who was driving the Dodge Ram pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation, according to city police.

The child was in stable condition Wednesday morning, following treatment on scene by New Castle County Paramedics Tuesday night and subsequent treatment at A.I. duPont Children's Hospital for head and facial injuries, police said. His injuries were considered serious, according to police.
