Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition names new director

Eileen Filliben Edmunds, a Wilmington native and two-time breast cancer survivor, was named the new executive director of the statewide Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

Edmunds, a former volunteer and coalition board member, will take the post in January after current executive director Vicky Cooke retires. Cooke, also a two-time breast cancer survivor, was the coalition's first director and led the organization from 2000.

A Wilmington native, Edmunds attended St. Mary Magdalen and Archmere Academy. She attended the University of Virginia and went on to receive a law degree and MBA from UVA before beginning a legal career in New York City, where she practiced at Potter, Anderson and Corroon in Wilmington.

Now she is president of ModernThink in Wilmington, an organizational development and management consulting firm.

After her second breast cancer diagnosis she decided to create a documentary that could help women learn the facts behind breast reconstruction and be empowered to become their own advocates. She filmed her breast reconstruction and interviewed survivors and physicians. The film looks to demystify reconstruction, so women can make informed decisions.
