Hungry for gumbo or macaroni and cheese with andouille sausage, bacon and ham?

Cajun Kate's, a New Orleans-style eatery at the Booths Corner Farmers Market in Boothwyn, Pa., is opening its second location on Philadelphia Pike in Bellefonte on Dec. 9.

Those dishes along with smoked brisket and provolone cheese po'boys will be served today at the "soft opening" of the new Cajun Kate's in Bellefonte.

Owners of the Cajun-style eatery, a spin-off of the flagship location at the Booth's Corner Farmer Market, are quietly letting fans try out the new digs at 722 Philadelphia Pike. They said they are having "a dry run, to shake out the kinks."

A grand opening will be held later.

Cajun Kate's is owned by Don Applebaum, whose background includes stints at Emeril Lagasse’s Cafe NOLA in the French Quarter and New Orleans’ Aquarium of the Americas. The business is named for his wife, chef Kate Applebaum, the former longtime chef of Harry’s Seafood Grill at the Wilmington Riverfront.

The new Cajun Kate's has counter seats as well as a 30-seat dining room. But the ordering process will be the same as the farmers market site. There are no servers. You place your order at the counter and pick it up.

The new location will be open Fri., Dec. 9, and Sat., Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call (302) 416-5108. The couple's Booth's Corner location also is open this weekend.
