Two Warner Elementary School students were shot with a pellet gun Thursday but were not injured, according to a Red Clay Consolidated School District spokeswoman.

One student was shot in the thumb, and another was grazed in the neck area, according to Pati Nash, a Red Clay spokeswoman.

Nash did not release the names of the students involved, nor say if any students were disciplined.

"We can't address specific student discipline, but we can say we are following student code of conduct," Nash said.

Because the incident did not involve a large population of students and staff, Nash said, only the parents of those involved were notified. Nash added that the school is still investigating the incident and will update parents.

A report was filed with Wilmington Police Department, according to Nash.

A Wilmington man who said his co-worker's son was one of the students hit said, "One kid came in the bathroom with a gun, and another came with pellets."

"What's so concerning about this is how a gun got in the school in the first place," said the man, who did not want his name published because it might identify the students. "We need to figure out how these kids are getting guns in the school."
