A Camden man will spend the rest of his life in prison for hitting his girlfriend in the head with a hammer, the Department of Justice said.

The victim suffered a serious head injury and had to undergo several surgeries after Daniel Eyster, 37, hit her during an argument in September 2015, the DOJ said.

He was convicted of attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony by a Superior Court jury in June, the DOJ said.

Eyster faced a minimum mandatory sentence of 17 years in prison for the crime, but Judge Jeffrey Clark recently imposed a life sentence.
