Details continue to emerge about a fatal two-vehicle crash in Milford Tuesday.

Mario E. Nelson, 58, of Harrington was driving with his 29-year-old daughter when he crashed into another vehicle, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, a spokesman with state police. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. The state police Collision Reconstruction Unit were called in by the Milford Police Department to investigate, he said.

The crash occurred at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday when Nelson, operating a 2010 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Northeast Front Street collided with a 2013 Lincoln MKZ, driven by Melissa L. Mallet, 35, of Magnolia, Fournier said.  Mallet was driving in the left lane of Del. 1 along with her son, Fournier said.

Nelson approached a stop sign, police say, and failed to remain stationary, entering the intersection of Milford Bypass (Del. 1) and crashing into Mallet's driver side door.

All four involved in the crash were properly restrained, Fournier said.

Nelson's daughter was flown by state helicopter to Christiana Medical Center, police say, for non-life threatening injuries.

Mallet and her 14-year-old son were taken to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Fournier said. Mallet's son was later released.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police.

The southbound Milford Bypass was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
