Woman assaulted on James F. Hall Trail in Newark

Newark police are looking for the man they say shoved a woman to the ground on the James F. Hall Trail in Newark and punched her repeatedly Monday.

Officers were called about 8:45 p.m. to the trail for the report of a 23-year-old woman found unconscious but breathing on the ground, Sgt. Gerald Bryda said. The woman told police that she was running on the trail near Phillips Park when she was shoved from behind and punched in the face several times, causing bruising, he said.

The unknown man was described as large and wore a ski mask and gloves, Bryda said. There was no property taken from the woman and no one who witnessed the assault was located, he said.
