Pair rescued after boat overturns in Delaware River
Gusty winds and high rainfall contributed to a sailboat overturning in the Delaware River about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Goodwill Fire Company's Rescue Boat 18 responded to the Delaware River following reports of an overturned sailboat off of Delaware Street in New Castle, according to David Majewski Jr., assistant chief with Goodwill Fire Company.
Four members on board Rescue Boat 18 helped bring two members of the New Castle Sailing Club to shore, Majewski said. The two were rescued in less than 15 minutes.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds impacted New Castle County after 5:30 p.m., and Majewski said the severe weather contributed to the boat overturning.
Cranston Heights Fire Company treated the two rescued at the scene for injuries. However, the pair declined any transportation to the hospital, Majewski said.
The overturned boat was located and brought back to shore.
