An inmate incarcerated in Vaughn Correctional Center for the last 28 years died Monday after a long illness, a state Department of Correction official said.

Joseph J. Bostic, 58, formerly of Harrington, died at 7:55 a.m. in the prison infirmary, said agency spokesman Carl Shockley.

No foul play is suspected.

Bostic was charged in July 1986 with three counts of first-degree rape in the attacks of two girls, ages 6 and 7.

He was serving a life sentence in prison, Shockley said.

Bostic's body was turned over to the Medical Examiner at the state Division of Forensic Science for autopsy per standard procedure.
