An inmate died Saturday at the Plummer Community Corrections Center in Wilmington, state prison officials said Monday.

Other offenders found Charles Williams, 38, unresponsive in his bed shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday, Department of Correction spokesman Jason P. Miller said.

Correction staff responded immediately and called 911, Miller said.

First responders performed CPR, he said, but Williams was declared dead at 6:41 a.m.

Following standard procedure, his body was turned over to the state Division of Forensic Science for autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, Miller said.

Williams arrived at Plummer Center on April 22, after violating probation on a 2013 conviction for firearm possession by a prohibited person, he said.

The original offense that led to Williams being banned from gun possession was not disclosed.

Delaware State Police are investigating his death.
