A motorist who ran down a woman and three children last week before walking away from a crash near Lewes surrendered to state police over the weekend to face charges, police said Monday.

Rosa Maria Curz Molina, 39, of Rehoboth Beach, was charged Saturday with four counts of first-degree reckless endangering, three counts of second-degree assault and one count of reckless driving, Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

The crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. Sept. 16 on Mary Ann Road in the Whispering Pines community when Molina was driving east on Renee Drive. She entered a sharp corner onto Mary Ann Road, where the 1994 Buick Real she was driving slowed to a stop then suddenly accelerated.

Molina then drove off the west side of the roadway where Victoria Graver, 22, of Reading, Pennsylvania was in a front yard – between Renee Drive and Mary Ann Road – about to get into a 2009 Ford Focus with her three children.

The mother tried to shield her 3-year-old daughter by jumping on top of her when she saw the car heading for them. Both mother and daughter were run over by the car, Fournier said.

Molina also hit a 4-week-old boy strapped in a car seat on the ground next to the car, as well as a 1 1/2-year-old boy standing next to the car before she crashed into the Ford Focus.

The driver got out of her car, stayed momentarily at the scene and then walked away.

Troopers responding to the scene picked Molina up at the corner of Arlene Road and Holly Drive.

Graver, her two children and nephew were taken to Beebe Medical Center, treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Molina was also taken to the hospital for observation.
