Pregnant woman assaulted in Bear

A 21-year-old pregnant woman is in critical condition after being assaulted, New Castle County police said in a release Monday.

At about 5:55 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the 800 block of Samantha Circle in the Waterford Trailer Park in Bear after county paramedics reported that they found the woman unconscious inside the home, Officer First Class Tracey Duffy said.

Duffy said officers learned a physical domestic dispute occurred between Fernando Flores and the victim prior to a call to 911. The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital and underwent surgery as a result of her injuries, Duffy said. She remains hospitalized.

Flores, 24, of the 800 block of Samantha Circle, has been charged with first-degree and second-degree assault. He was arraigned and was taken to Young Correctional Institution in lieu of posting $200,000 cash bail. He also was issued a no-contact order, Duffy said.

Duffy said a photograph of Flores was not available at this time.
