A man on probation in Wilmington was arrested after an administrative search of his home found a handgun and cache of ammo, along with marijuana, city police said Wednesday.

Operation Safe Streets officers searched the home in the 300 block of W. 29th St. shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday and arrested resident Miguel Taylor, 23, Sgt. Andrea Janvier said.

In addition to 14.4 grams of marijuana worth about $216 in street sales, for which it was packaged, police seized a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun with its serial number removed, Janvier said.

The gun was loaded with 15 rounds, she said, and the cache included an extended magazine holding 25 rounds of .20-caliber ammo, a magazine holding 13 rounds of .20-caliber ammo, a box of 24 rounds of 9-mm ammo and a box of four .40-caliber rounds.

In addition to violation of probation, Taylor was charged with firearm possession by a prohibited person, ammunition possession by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and marijuana possession with intent to deliver.

Lacking bail of $105,000 cash and $2,000 secured, he was committed to Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.

Police did not disclose the past offense for which Taylor was on probation.
