This pastor doesn't shy away from colorful clothes

WHO: The Rev. John Molina-Moore, 30, Wilmington, associate pastor at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian and co-pastor at Calvary Presbyterian Church.

WHY: He was nominated by Linda Reisor, who says: "John has an amazing sense of style and wears colors that are bold and festive. On a recent Sunday, he wore a striped white-and-orange dress shirt with an orange bow tie and looked fabulous. He is also known for his shoe selection, including purple sneakers. John's wife Amy is also quite the fashionista."

The Rev. John Molina-Moore says he’s been wearing Vans since middle school.

HIS STYLE: "Colorful and unique. I want people to say, 'Where did he ever find those clothes?' "

WEARING, at Red Clay and Calvary Presbyterian churches:

FIRST OUTFIT: Blue-and-white floral Claiborne shirt from JCPenney ("a totally underappreciated store," Molina-Moore notes); Pink Club Room shorts from Macy's; maroon silk knit tie from Banana Republic; maroon canvas Vans Classics; white patent leather Timex watch, a birthday present from his wife when he said he wanted a fun watch.

SECOND OUTFIT: American Rag sweatshirt blazer from Macy's, bought on super clearance in California when the couple was visiting his parents and he forgot to pack a light jacket. Purple-and-white check Calibrate shirt from Nordstrom (his favorite shirt, his wife's least favorite). Pocket square purchased for $2 at JCPenney. Slim-fit 1969 jeans from the Gap. 1901 pink-and-purple saddle shoes from Nordstrom.

THIRD OUTFIT: Made-to-measure suit from Joseph Abboud that he personally styled as his wedding suit. 1901 pink, blue and white check shirt from Nordstrom. Blue silk bow tie from Thomas Pink. Hook + Albert lapel flower (first chosen to match a dress that his wife wore to his best friend's wedding). Brown leather cap-toe oxfords from Magnanni. Blue and rose gold Kenneth Cole watch.

WHERE HE SHOPS: "I am known to hit up Nordstrom and Macy's. Online for T-shirts, hip-hop websites. A lot of my bow ties come from the Tie Bar. If you are in the mood to hunt, you can find some great stuff at Marshalls. I also like thrift shops. I've had my best results from the Salvation Army on Market Street in Wilmington."

STYLE ICON: "The '70s. I love the style in the film 'American Hustle.' And the earliest 'Mad Men' episodes, when the 1960s were just getting started."

YOU CRAZY KID, YOU: "My mom will tell stories of the clothes I wanted to have that no other kid had when I was growing up in San Jose, California. As a little kid I loved huge shorts in crazy pastel colors. I had these purple suede boots in fifth grade that I absolutely loved. Camouflage shorts that I cut off. I would go to thrift shops with my sister. I love taking kids at church to thrift shops to find outfits for a '50s party. We hit the thrifts to get outfits for our bowling party when we go to camp in Maine."

THE THRILL OF THE HUNT: "I will shop for a month until I find the closest thing I can to what I have in my head. Last spring, my wife and I went to Nordstrom and I said I want a brown suede saddle shoe with pink in the middle. We saw a brown saddle shoe with blue in the middle the minute we walked into the store. And she said, 'You have got to buy those shoes.' "

TYING ONE ON: "I think a bow tie is actually easier to tie than a neck tie. That said, I do not look down on clip-on bow ties. I own a clip-on made from fabric that looks like comic books. Fantastic."

WORTH THE SPLURGE: "I have a custom-made suit at Nordstrom that I got married in that I want to hand off to my son at some point. Steel blue, almost gray, with fat lapels and a super bright pink paisley lining. They have adjusted it for me at least three times."

NOT WORTH THE SPLURGE: "Paying full price for underwear. I don't get excited about belts, either. I will wear a belt until it breaks or wears out. I only have three."

WARDROBE MATTERS: "I am not a brand shopper. I am a look and a texture shopper. I have a Thomas Pink shirt that I bought that I am not liking because I paid a lot of money for it and it isn't all that great. I bought this plaid blazer that I used to wear with everything at a thrift shop. My favorite Zara pink dress shirt cost 50 cents at a thrift shop in California and I would wear it with my nicest suit."

GOOD GROOMING: "I shave my head as often as I shave my neck and the part of my face that isn't covered by my beard. I keep after my beard. Constantly."

SOCK IT TO ME: "I have a huge sock collection. My drawer is filled with every squiggly pattern and dot you can imagine. Paisley patterns, too. I gravitate toward colorful shoes. Pink-and-purple saddle shoes. Blue suede loafers. I have been wearing Vans since middle school."

SWEATING IT: "I did not grow up wearing sweaters. My wife has to remind me that I own sweaters. Scarves? Never wore them until last winter when it was so cold and I found a big, warm, cozy, gray-and-white stripe scarf on closeout at Marshalls."

CARING FOR CLOTHES: "I have a big closet. But I also am very good at cleaning it out. If I haven't worn something in a year, I get rid of it. I won't let my wife do laundry. The collar stays come out and go on a spot on my dresser before the shirts go in the washer. I iron my shirts as soon as they come out of the dryer."

SUNDAY BEST: "In my work, I need to go full blazing one day a week. I can be as casual as I want the rest of the week. But you will still find me in my Vans, green khakis and a bow tie on a Wednesday, just because I enjoy it."
