Health Briefs: Shining light award winner, National Drug Take-Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday 

Drop off unwanted or expired medications Saturday at 26 locations statewide on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can drop off prescription and over-the-counter medications.

All medications will be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Since 2010, Delaware has collected 52,002 pounds of expired and unused medicines through its 11 Drug Take-Back Day events. Call (302)744-4704 with questions.

Shining light award winners

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition's 2016 Shining Light award winners will be honored at the Chase Center on the Wilmington Riverfront June 16 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m

Awards will be presented to individuals and companies in the following categories: Steve “Monty” Montgomery and Adam Howard for Dewey Goes Pink for “Spotlight on Philanthropy;” Peggie Ball for “Spotlight on Survivorship; Beebe Healthcare accepted by Dan Mapes, for “Spotlight on Health Care Delivery, Organization;” The Honorable Nancy Cooke, for “Spotlight on Health Care Delivery, Individual;” and Currie Hair Skin Nails for “Spotlight on Business.

Beebe nursing students win scholarship

Four students at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare have received the Louise Jarmon Hopkinson scholarship.

Louise Jarmon Hopkinson was a 1932 graduate of Beebe School of Nursing who served in the Army Nurse corps and as a private duty nurse at Beebe Hospital.

The student recipients this year are Angela Kontoloulas of Rehoboth Beach; Marissa Setzer of Milton; Eve-Joellyn DuPree of Newark; and Bethany Campbell of Milford.

Robotic Surgery lecture: Prostate Treatments

Christiana Care will host a free men's health lecture May 4 at the John H. Ammon Medical Education Center, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark.

Urology expert Christopher Mitchell, Director of Robotic Surgery at Christiana Care will host the free lecture. He will be speaking on the advances of minimally invasive robotic surgery and other solutions for prostate care.
