Woman, 81, robbed in grocery store parking lot

An 81-year-old woman was robbed in a grocery store parking lot in Christiana Monday morning, state police said Tuesday.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., the victim was walking in the parking lot of the Acme Food Market in the University Plaza Shopping Center when she was approached by a woman who engaged her in conversation in an effort to distract her, Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said.

The female bandit then grabbed jewelry from the victim’s neck and fled northbound through the parking lot. The victim was not injured.

Police are seeking a woman described as being 20-24 years old, 5’6” 5’8” tall, with a thin build. She was last seen wearing all dark clothing. No surveillance images are available at this time.
