A 23-year-old man is in serious condition after a shooting in a Bear shopping center parking lot Saturday morning, Delaware State Police said.

Sgt. Paul Shavack said a preliminary investigation indicates that at about 10 a.m., the man was meeting with the suspects in the parking lot of the Sunset Station shopping center in the 1800 block of Pulaski Highway. He got into what was described as a silver passenger vehicle that had a man and woman inside, Shavack said, and then one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired at least one round, hitting the victim in the upper body. The victim was able to get out of the vehicle and flee to a business in the shopping center, Shavack said.

The vehicle fled in an unknown direction.

The man was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where he was admitted in serious condition, Shavack said.

The investigation is continuing.
