State police have identified the driver killed in a head-on crash Tuesday morning southeast of Milton as 27-year-old Heather T. Harman of Milford.

Harman was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle crash, reported at 6:23 a.m. on Harbeson Road (Del. 5) near Carpenter Road, Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier said.

Based on preliminary investigation, he said, police believe Harman's car was southbound on Harbeson Road just north of Carpenter Road, approaching a slight right curve just before the crash.

Robert J. Klerlein, 49, of Millsboro, was northbound on the same road when, "for undetermined reasons, the two vehicles struck head-on in the southbound lanes," Fournier said. Both vehicles came to a stop on the southbound shoulder, he said.

Klerlein, not properly restrained, was taken by emergency medical services to Beebe Healthcare's hospital in Lewes, where he was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening and was released, Fournier said.

Harman was properly restrained at the time of the crash, he said.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash, Fournier said.

Harbeson Road was closed nearly four hours between Sam Lucas and Carpenter roads as troopers investigated and wreckage was cleared.

No charges were filed, but police continue to investigate the crash, Fournier said.
