A crash that closed the ramp from southbound Del. 141 to southbound I-95 near Newport has been cleared and the ramp reopened.

A DelDOT traffic cam showed a large wrecker working at the scene, with a vehicle in trees near the ramp and damage to the guard rail.

Wrecker moves car that was removed from trees off southbound Del. 141 ramp to southbound I-95.

The car has been removed and was placed on another truck for transport at 7:10 a.m.

State police Cpl. John Day says someone spotted the vehicle, a 2005 Acura RSX, down an embankment and reported it at 5:18 a.m.

No one was in the car, he said.

Troopers searched the area for any signs of the vehicle's occupants and found none, he said.

"It is not known when the vehicle went down the embankment," he said, but it appeared to have occurred sometime overnight.

The occupant or occupants apparently removed themselves from the vehicle and left the scene, he said.

Day said that the vehicle had not been reported stolen. Troopers intend to contact the registered owner.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on the driver's identity is asked to call (302) 633-5000 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800)TIP-3333.

Southbound Del. 141 was closed briefly about 7 a.m. as the wrecker was moved into position.

DelDOT detoured traffic to a left turn at the Airport Road crossover, then north on Del. 141 to the southbound I-95 ramp.
