With CANgineering competition businesses can fight hunger

It's creative fundraising at its finest.

The Food Bank of Delaware is once again holding its annual CANgineering competition (formerly Delaware CAN) this spring, encouraging local businesses not only to hold food drives, but construct larger-than-life statues out of cans and other dried goods.

JPMorgan Chase submitted this structure in a previous CANgineering competition.

Organizations will be given from Monday, March 21, until Friday, April 22, to collect food and work on their structures. Before collecting, teams should decide what they are going to build and coordinate the types of food items to be collected.

A fun activity for the office, CANgineering also supports the Food Bank's year-round hunger relief efforts. After the holiday season, donations are normally down during the spring and summer months. The competition is a creative way to collect much-needed food for the more than 17,000 Delawareans that visit the Food Bank and its partners each week.

Barclaycard submitted this structure in a previous year's CANgineering competition.

“Unfortunately, hunger never takes a break,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe in a statement. “CANgineering is an opportunity for us to help stock the shelves of our partner organizations and ensure that hungry Delawareans have access to healthy foods."

Judging will take place on Monday, April 25, and Tuesday, April 26, and winners will be announced on Friday, April 29.
