A man found dead in his Centreville driveway was identified Tuesday night as 85-year-old James Conaway by New Castle County police, who said his car, reported missing from his home, has been recovered.

New Castle County police investigate at home where body was found in driveway on High Ridge Road in Centreville.

Detectives worked into the night trying to determine what happened.

They have labeled their case a "death investigation."

"At this point, it hasn't been labeled a 'suspicious death,'" Sgt. Jacob Andrews said Tuesday night, but investigators also have not specifically ruled out foul play.

Conaway's family could not be reached Tuesday night and neighbors declined comment.

A relative found Conaway about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday morning in the driveway of his home in 300 block of High Ridge Road in the secluded Owls Nest Estates neighborhood, police said.

New Castle County paramedics pronounced Conaway dead at the scene, Sgt. Jacob Andrews said.

His body was taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Police released no details about the recovery of Conaway's car, which they had described as a bronze, four-door 2010 Cadillac DTS, with a Delaware license plate number 44386.

Nor did police release any information about the investigation, still in a preliminary stage, or any possible theories about the circumstances of Conaway's death.

However, in calling for tips, they asked for anyone who may have been "a witness to this crime" or anyone who might have video surveillance that could have recorded what happened to contact them.

Jacobs said witnesses, owners of nearby surveillance equipment or anyone with information about Conaway's death is asked to call police at (302) 395-8110 or contact them through their website at www.nccpd.com.

Tips also may be called to Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333, given at www.tipsubmit.com, texted in messages starting with NCCPD to 847411 (TIP411), given through the New Castle County Police Department's Facebook page or submitted using the department's app for iPhone and Android smartphones.
