Michael Morgan’s “Hidden History of Lewes” ($20, The History Press) came out this week.

The book focuses on little-known tales of gentleman pirates, desperate acts of cannibalism, a failed British bombardment during the War of 1812 and an attempted 1853 invasion by New England fishermen intent on having a good time.

Morgan, who writes weekly features for the Delaware Coast Press and the Wave, also writes about impromptu presidential dips, charismatic preachers, German POW camps and other lost tales. A member of the Lewes Historical Society, he will do a series of signings this summer.
