Two men were shot Tuesday night in the Jefferson Farms neighborhood near New Castle, county police said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7:45 p.m. on Powhaten Road near South Lunenburg Drive, Officer First Class Tom Jackson said.

One victim was shot in the upper and lower extremities, while the second victim was shot in the lower extremity, he said.

Both were listed in stable condition at Christiana Hospital.

Police learned of the shooting from a 911 caller who reported both victims were being taken to Christiana Hospital by a private vehicle.

Some officers met the victims as they arrived at the hospital, while others responded to the scene of the shooting, which occurred in the roadway, Jackson said.

Detectives have not determined whether one or more shooters were involved.

The suspect or suspects were reportedly driving a motor vehicle but officers were not able to locate the vehicle, Jackson said. No further description is available at this time.

"This investigation is in its preliminary stages and is still developing," Jackson said. "Further details will be released once they become available and can be released."
