Man shot, critically wounded in Wilmington

Detectives investigate at the scene of a Monday night shooting in Wilmington that left a man hospitalized in critical condition.

A 31-year-old man was shot and critically wounded Monday night in Wilmington, city police said Tuesday.

A 911 call reported the shooting about 11:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Townsend Place, Sgt. Fray Lynch told The News Journal.

Responding officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, she said.

Based on preliminary investigation, Lynch said, police believe the man was sitting in a vehicle when the shooter or shooters approached and fired repeatedly.

He was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics and transported to Christiana Hospital, Lynch said.

He was listed in critical condition, but described as stable, she said. No additional information was released about his injuries.

No suspect information was available.
