Police: Man, 20, dies after fall from roof near UD campus

A 20-year-old Massachusetts man who was injured after he fell from the roof of a three-story home on the 100 block of West Main Street in Newark Saturday afternoon has died, according to Newark police.

Newark police received the call at approximately 3:57 p.m. Saturday that a man had fallen from a third story roof, said Sgt. Gerald J. Bryda, a spokesman with Newark police. Upon initial contact, the man was unresponsive.

New Castle County Paramedics were on the scene and transported the man to the Christiana Hospital, said Sgt. Abigail Haas, a spokeswoman with the New Castle County Paramedics. The man was first described as in critical condition.

Both a representative with the University of Delaware and Sgt. Bryda confirmed the victim was not a student of the school.

The university also confirmed that the incident happened at a residence where fraternity members live, but the residence is not a fraternity house.

Newark Police Department is on the scene actively investigating. No additional information into what caused the fall is available at this time.

The University Police are on scene assisting the Newark Police Victim Services Unit with providing access to victim and counseling services, Bryda said.
