A crash Monday night west of Delmar killed a 37-year-old man, officials said.

Delaware State police identified him as William R. Tressler, of Laurel.

The single vehicle crash was reported just after 10 p.m. when the driver of a 2004 Mini Cooper lost control of his vehicle as he entered a curve on Providence Church Rd. just north of Pine Branch Rd., said Cpl. Gary Fournier, a spokesman with the Delaware State Police Department.

New Castle County police are searching for a man who attacked another man in Claymont.

The vehicle went off the east side of the roadway, hit a culvert and went airborne.  It came to a stop after it struck a tree, Fournier said.

Tressler was pulled from the wreckage as his car became engulfed in flames, Fournier said.

He was rushed to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Fournier said.

Providence Church Road was closed for more than three hours while police investigated the crash and cleared the wreckage.
