With the release of a new app, fans of Funland who are longing for it from afar or in the offseason, now have a way to get the seasonal Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk amusement park in their hands all year long.

“Our slogan is old fashioned fun at old fashioned prices,” said Fiona Curry, a fourth generation member of the Funland family who focuses on finance and merchandise. “But it doesn’t mean we can’t also be in the 21st century.”

Curry’s brother, Alan Hill, developed the app, which is designed for ages 5 and up.

The app features a quartet of mini-games, each with a Funland twist to them. Tic-Tac-Toe is a two player game paying homage to the memory game that used to be at the park. It features Funland tickets and tokens instead of X’s and O’s.

“People like the retro angle and throwback to childhood,” Curry said.

Memory Match consists of the user trying to match pairs of Funland icons in a 4-by-3 grid, while in Sliding Puzzle, the user must rearrange parts of a photo to recreate a famous Funland image.

Boardwalk Dash is similar to Frogger, in which the player must control a turtle across a boardwalk filled with walkers and bicyclists to get to Funland.

“It was something we felt would be fun for people who know Funland and are familiar with games we had in the past and the boardwalk, as well,” Curry said.

With downloads in the hundreds, Curry is pleased with the response, so far.

“We didn’t know exactly if people would like it but we’re happy with the response and there’s been positive feedback,” she said.

The app was created on the heels of the amusement park creating a more mobile-friendly website in the offseason, Curry said.

In the future, there is potential for adding more games and an online store to buy tickets and merchandise, Curry said.
