Man died Sunday after fight at party, police say
A 20-year-old man, found unconscious Sunday outside a home near Odessa, died after he fought another man at a party, New Castle County police said Monday.
"The two agreed to fight," Officer First Class Tracey Duffy told The News Journal, saying both were guests at the party.
The man he fought with has not been charged, Duffy said, nor have the unidentified host or hosts of the party.
Police declined to identify or give any personal information about either man involved in the fight and said the nature of their dispute was not known.
A 911 call about 2 a.m. Sunday reported an unconscious person in the 200 block of E. Bradford Court in the Misty Vale Farm neighborhood off Bayview Road in the Boyds Corner area north of Odessa.
Arriving police and paramedics found witnesses performing CPR on the unconscious 20-year-old, Duffy said. Paramedics took over resuscitation efforts and transported him to Christiana Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead, Duffy said. His time of death was not disclosed.
Police quickly labeled their case "a death investigation."
A vigil for the man, who family and friends identified as Ty Sawyer, is planned for 8:30 p.m. tonight at Silver Lake Park in Middletown, a cousin said.
Duffy told The News Journal on Sunday that "it's not a homicide."
The man's body was taken to the state Division of Forensic Sciences for autopsy to determine his cause and manner of death, she said.
Detectives are continuing their investigation, Duffy said.
