A Milford woman was charged with punching and hitting a 23-year-old woman with a desk fan earlier this month, police said Tuesday.

Police arrested 60-year-old Rose L. Deshields, also known as Rosa L. Person, after investigation revealed she got into a verbal dispute with a 23-year-old at a Brightway Commons Apartment Complex residence near Milford that quickly escalated, Detective Dwight Young said.

During the argument, Deshields punched the woman in the head multiple times before grabbing a 12-inch oscillating desk fan and continuing to hit the woman with it as witnesses tried to separate the two women, Young said.

When the woman was able to flee from Deshields into another room, the woman threatened her and said she was going to kill her, Young said.

The victim had minor injuries to her arms and legs but refused medical treatment, Young said. A 1-year-old child was also present during the assault but was not injured, he added.

Deshields was charged with aggravated menacing, third degree assault, terroristic threatening, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief. She was released on $17,550 unsecured bond.
