Trial date set for Dover cop accused of kicking suspect
A Nov. 30 trial has been scheduled for the Dover police corporal accused of kicking an unarmed man in the head during a 2013 arrest.
Cpl. Thomas Webster has been indicted by a grand jury and charged with second-degree assault. He is suspended without pay and is out on $5,000 unsecured bail. He has pleaded not guilty.
Dashboard camera footage released in May by the Dover Police Department shows the incident that left Lateef Dickerson unconscious and with a broken jaw.
The first grand jury, which convened in 2014, failed to indict Webster. The ACLU of Delaware then sued the city and Police Department. That lawsuit is still ongoing.
A lawyer for the ACLU recently requested records of communications between the Delaware attorney general's office and Dover city officials regarding the case.
Dickerson faces a separate trial on unrelated gun charges.
