Emergency crews respond to a two-vehicle crash at Limestone Road and Kirkwood Highway Thursday afternoon.

Two drivers were injured Thursday afternoon when their vehicles collided in the intersection of Limestone Road and Kirkwood Highway between the Stanton and Pike Creek areas, state police said.

"It was terrible," said driver Bob Willliams, who said the car that caused the crash nearly hit the front of his car – and would have if he had pulled away more quickly when his light turned from red to green.

The two-vehicle crash, reported at 2:08 p.m. closed the area to traffic, Master Cpl. Jeffrey R. Hale said.

Both drivers were taken to Christiana Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Hale said.

Details of their injuries were not available.

The intersection reopened after troopers finished their investigation at the crash site and wreckage was removed.

Williams, who lives in the nearby Mill Creek area, said he was driving along Kirkwood Highway, heading from Newark to Prices Corner, when he stopped for a red light at the intersection of of Kirkwood Highway (Del. 2) and Limestone Road (Del. 7).

As his light turned green, Williams said, "I was just entering the intersection, but slowly.

"Somebody came from the west, a white van came from the west and just missed the front of our car," he said, adding that the car was traveling at "full, full speed."

The car then ran over a concrete pedestrian triangle in the road "and T-boned another white car.

"It just exploded," he said. "It was terrible."

The crash remains under investigation, Hale said.
